About
Aasha is now in its 10th year as an award winning gang conflict mediation programme. It is based in East London and works in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets.
(First Prize – CGU British Crime Prevention and Community Safety Award (1999) European Crime Prevention Finals, Runners-Up (1999)).
It is a project that works with young people, between the ages of 16 and 24 who are involved in gangs or are on the fringe of joining one. Research has shown that the vast majority of crime in any given locality is committed by a very small proportion of the population. Aasha aims to reach this group and design interventions that reach young people before they get involved in crime. Aasha seeks to support such young people in resisting gang culture and criminality through a structured programme of workshops, accredited training, exciting excursions and one to one personal development. The project also operates an outreach service, its team of dedicated staff along with network of volunteers from the community has helped to mediate, prevent and often resolve many gang conflicts.
What is the Aasha project about?
REACHING YOUNG PEOPLE AT RISK
Aasha is a project that works with young people who are involved in gangs or are on the fringe of joining one
MAKING REAL CHANGE
Aasha stands for change. We are here to empower young people to create positive change within themselves and those around them
GANG DEGLAMOURISATION
Aasha seeks to support young people involved in conflicts/violence by resisting involvement
ROLE MODELS
Aasha utilizes role models from the community and seeks to support young people into becoming positive role models themselves. “Absence of positive role models can lead to ‘gang’ involvement”
CREATING LEADERSHIP
Aasha aims to engage young people from the society’s grass roots and create leaders from them so they become a force of positive change in the community
Great posts guy! Thank you sir!
It looks as though you are doing some excellent work to combat gang violence. Keep up the great work. We are always reaching out to network or work with organziations and programs dedicated to reducing gang violence and eliminating the threat these gangs are to our communities, our schools and our kids. One of the greatest ways we can accomplish this is to stand united as one against gang violence in a quest to be GANGFREE. That is why I founded The Rusty Keeble Foundation and the GANGFREE Project. My goal – is your goal. To have a GANGFREE London.
